Shoe-Implanted Radar May Improve GPS Devices

The secret to improved GPS technology might be on your feet.

Our reliance on Global Positioning System (GPS) devices becomes dangerous when these devices fail. Hikers end up lost in the woods; drivers take wrong turns. Now a group of researchers from North Carolina State University and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has developed a way to improve GPS devices—a radar system that can be implanted into users' shoes.
"There are situations where GPS is unavailable, such as when you're in a building, underground, or in places where a satellite connection can be blocked by tall buildings or other objects," says Dr. Dan Stancil, head of NC State's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and co-author of a paper describing the team's research. "So what do you do without satellites?"

The best way to assist GPS devices outside of satellite range is with inertial measurement units (IMUs). IMUs measure a person's or vehicle's acceleration and orientation to determine distances moved. Working in conjunction with GPS, an IMU can track movement that occurs after satellite signal is lost. "For example, if you entered a cave and lost your GPS signal," a statement from the researchers explains, "you could use the IMU to retrace your steps to the last known GPS location and find your way back out."

Android phones can choke network

HELSINKI: Users of Google's Android phones, such as Samsung's Galaxy S, use more data services than those with other smartphones, threatening to choke wireless network capacity, an industry study showed.

The growing popularity of Android-operated phones -- made by companies including Asian vendors HTC Corp and Samsung Electronics -- comes as handsets look set to overtake computers as the most used device for browsing the Web.

Wireless operators are keen on raising revenue from Internet browsing and the social networking boom as revenue from traditional voice calls decline, but they are facing increasingly congested networks.

Fearful of losing customers, only a few operators have publicly admitted to the problem of keeping pace with data traffic, but the majority is experiencing difficulties.

The study by telecom network technology firm Arieso showed that customers with Android phones are creating more data traffic mostly due to better cameras and video recorders, and software for editing the footage.

"When more could be done, more tends to be done," said Arieso's Chief Technology Officer Michael Flanagan. "Smartphone subscriptions are rising and so to is subscriber appetite for mobile data. It's a trend that's set to continue."

Android software, offered free to cellphone vendors, has grown strongly since coming to market two years ago. Globally Android usage ranked second in the last quarter, beating Apple's iPhone and Research In Motion, but still trailing Nokia's Symbian.
Analysts expect it to become the leading operating system next year. Mobile data usage has rocketed since the introduction of Apple Inc's iPhone in 2007, with usage of data networks seen roughly doubling each year.

"What operators are really suffering from is the fact that popularity of smartphones came too quickly," said Lance Hiley, VP of market strategy at telecoms network technology provider Cambridge Broadband Networks.

Telecoms gear makers Ericsson, Nokia Siemens and Alcatel-Lucent, which have struggled in recent years in the face of aggressive pricing by Asian rivals, expect rising data traffic to lead to new orders.

హమ్మయ ఇప్పటికి ఐయింది పనంతా!! 

ఈ రోజు(24th) అంత చాలా busy అబ్బ చచ్చేననుకో!!  హా!! ఇప్పుడే స్నానం చేసి వచ్చా ఆహా సమ్మగా ఉంది!!

26th tournament ఉంది అందుకని ఈ రోజు పొద్దున్న 10 గంటలకల్లా Sports Complex కి రామ్మనారు...

మనం రాత్రి పడుకునే సరికి లేట్ ఐయింది ofcourse University కి వచ్చిన తర్వాత రోజూ late గానే పడుకుంటున్న.., లేచే సరికి 9:57 ఐయింది పల్లుతోముకుని chess board తీసుకుని Sports com కి వెళ్ళా ఆక్కడ నుంచి start ఐయింది పరుగు ఇప్పటికి ముగిసింది ఇప్పుడు టైం మరుసటి రోజు 4 కావస్తుంది..

Sports com నుంచి వచ్చేసరికి lunch time ఐయింది, ఇక రూం కి వచ్చి Doni ని  (mca batch mate) నాతో పాటు campus లో మిగిలి ఉన్న ఏకైక సాల్తి ని తీసుకుని అలా Shop com కి వెళ్లి noodles తిన్నాం, అప్పుడు  గుర్తొచింది Admin కి వెళ్ళాలని ScholarShip  విషయమై..,

నేను online లో Scholarship apply చెయ్యలేకున్న (EBC Scholarship ), SSC details notfound అని వస్తుంది, Student Service Section లో అడిగితె net రావట్లేదు గేంట ఆగి రమ్మన్నారు, ఓ గేంట రూం కి వచ్చి Farmville ఆడుకున్న Facebook లో ఇక తర్వాత వెళ్లి అడిగితె తను Nampally కి వెళ్లి BC Welfare Office కి వెళ్ళమన్నాడు, నాకు అదెక్కడో తెలీదు. అందులోను 5కి క్లోజ్ చేసేస్తారు తొందరగా వెళ్ళాలి, Doni కి Cal చేసి వస్తావా అంటే తను కూడా వస్తాన్ననాడు...

ఇద్దరం బయలుదేరేం Nampally కి,  koti లో దిగి దాన్ని వెతుక్కొని వెళ్ళే సరి కి తల ప్రాణం తోకకి వచ్చింది.

తీర కస్టపడి కనుక్కొని, 1 1/2 kms నడిచిలి వెళ్లి అడిగితె Masabtank దగ్గర ఇంకో Office ఉంది PMU అక్కడికి వెళ్ళమన్నారు..., చచ్చేమ్రా దేవుడా అనుకుంటూ మల్లి start to Masabtank., City సరిగా తెలిదు.., అల ఒక police ని అడిగితె చెప్పాడు "ఆ బస్టాండ్ లో 65 no బస్సు వస్తుంది దాన్ని ఎక్కండి అని" బస్సు అర గెంటకి వచ్చింది.,

its already 5:45 మాకు నమ్మకం లేదు ఈ రోజు పని అవ్తుంది అని.., ఐన సరే ఒక సారి వెళ్లి choosi వద్దాం  అనుకుని వెళ్లేం మాసాబ్ ట్యాంక్., అకడికి వెళ్లి Justdail కి Cal చేస్తే చెప్పాడు opp Chacha Nehru Park అని., ఎట్టకేలకు ఆఫీసు కి వెళ్ళాం., వాళ్ళు కింద PMU కి దారి చూపారు., అకడ వెళ్లి అడిగితె., "మీరు 10th 2003 లో చేసారు కదా మేము ఇంకా update చెయ్యలేదు 1 వీక్ తర్వాత apply చేసుకోండి అని"

hmmmmmm ఈ విషయం ఫోన్ లో చెప్తే  మాకు ఇన్ని తంటాలు ఎందుకు., తిరిగి తిరిగి కాళ్ళు అరిగిపోయాయి.. :( :'(

Cal చేస్తే attend చెయ్యలా వెదవలు., ఎంత ఐన Govt emplyees కదా అంతేలే., ఏదైతేనేఁ పని పూర్తీ ఐయింది.,

back to HCU .... అక్కడ 555 హోటల్ లో కాస్త వేడి వేడిగా మిరపకాయి బజ్జీలు తిని బయలుదేరాం.

కంటికి కనపడింది బస్సు ఒకటి "medhipatnam " అని ఎక్కేసాం.

Conductor ని medhipatnam కి టిక్కెట్ అడిగెం

Conductor : (కింద నుండి ఫై వరకు చూసి) మేదిపత్నమా ఇది kukatpally కి వెళ్తుంది.

Me : ఓహ్! (i got it dat its going from medhipatnam to కుకట్పల్లి అని ) ఐతే కుకట్పల్లి కే ఇవ్వు టిక్కెట్ అన్న..

పాపం వాడికి అర్ధం కల Quite oppsite direction లో వెళ్తున్దన్నా టిక్కెట్ అడిగేదేంటి అని ..

we finnaly came తో kukatpally-lingampally-hcu.. @ 8:10 We reached HCU.,

నేను కాసేపు facebook and గూగుల్-groups తో rest తీసుకొని 11 కి బట్టలు ఉతకడం మొదలెట్టా...

మద్య మద్య లో మా kousi తో chatting and farmville .... ఇంకేముంది ఐయ్యేసరికి 3 ఐయింది..,

అబ్బ బట్టలు ఉతకడం కన్నా చిరాకు ఐన పని వేరే లేదు... తప్పదు మరి రేపు chennai వెళ్తున్న ఏవి లేవ్!

తర్వాత Shaving చేసుకొని bathe చేసి kousi గాడికి Bye చెప్పేసి ఇలా కూచున్న ఈ blog రాద్దామని..

  c the magic....
  
  Now right click n make it “Hidden” in properties, dats it.. even u cant c dem now.
  
  2 get to original form,
  Unhide it and remove the extension using the command

  ♦ Open Start-->Run-->regedit
  
  ♦ Now navigate to the following registry key
  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
  
  
  Now in the right pane create a new DWORD item and name it "NoDrives".
  Now modify it's value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal)
  
  
  ♦ Now press F5 to refresh.
  
  Gone..! u cant c ur drives now.
  
  
  To enable display of drives in My Computer
  Simply delete this DWORD item, u hav jus created.

• Wanna Scare ur frnds,
  Ok next time u access ur frnd’s pc, just create a Shortcut for Forcible restart and place dat shortcut in Startup.
  
  Voola..! now every time he starts his computer it restarts automatically. So he can never start his pc.
  
  To Cancel dis reboot in “safe-mode” and delete dat shortcut from Startup.
  
  Make sure ur pc is starting in safe-mode first.
